The Village of New Concord, Ohio is seeking two Water/Sewer Treatment Plan Operators.

Job Purpose:

The Water/Sewer Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for work in the Water Treatment Plant and the Sewage Treatment Plant in accordance with Ohio EPA guidelines, state, and federal regulations.  Operators follow established procedures and report problems or violations to supervisors.  Operators conducts routine maintenance, monitoring, and testing to maintain optimal plant performance, addresses any operational issues, and supports the community’s environmental health and safety initiatives.   Operators are available for emergency callouts and work outside of the plants when assigned to assist with distribution, collection, streets, parks, building and other maintenance.

Essential Duties:

• Monitor and Operate equipment including but not limited to computer, pumps, motors, valves, SCADA systems.  Regularly checking and adjusting treatment processes and equipment settings to ensure optimal performance.

• Water quality testing and analysis including reporting and interpreting test results to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

• Maintenance and repairs such as performing routine maintenance on treatment plant equipment, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical and electrical issues as needed.

• Regulatory compliance – maintaining records of water and wastewater treatment operations.  Preparing and submitting required reports to regulatory agencies.  Ensuring the plant complies with all environmental and safety regulations.

• Report water or sewer problems, policy violations, and/or any violation of EPA regulations immediately to supervisors.

• Comply with all EPA regulations.  

• Work with private contractors and support companies for repair and maintenance.

• Operate and maintain the SCADA system to control storage and distribution.

• Assist other Village departments in the operation, maintenance and repair of the Village.

• Supervise other operators and seasonal employees.

This position is considered having moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/ technical nature.

Physical Demands:

The employee generally involves lifting and carrying equipment, tools and materials up to 50 pounds.  Prolonged periods of standing and walking while performing inspections, monitoring equipment, and conducting routine checks.  Climbing and balancing ladders, stairs and elevated platforms to access equipment and machinery.  Balancing on narrow walkways and catwalks.  Precise handling of technical instruments, valves, and control panels.  Good vision to read gauges, meters, and digital displays.  Ability to hear alarms, equipment malfunctions, and communicate with colleagues.  

Work Environment

The employee most often works in varying weather conditions (indoor and outdoor).  Noise levels from machinery and equipment.  Working in confined and high spaces.  Wear common protective or safety equipment.  Exposure to contaminants.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Minimum of High School Diploma; training in a vocational school, related on-the-job experience, or an associate’s degree is preferred.

License, Certificate or Registration: Position requires having a valid Ohio driver’s license.

Willing and able to obtain and maintain EPA licenses for water treatment, wastewater works and lab certifications.

Live within 50 miles of the Village, with in-town residing preferred
